ONIDA – Area athletes tried to improve their times and distances Thursday during the Central Plains Super Regional track and field meet. Ipswich swept the team championships at the event.
Aberdeen Roncalli’s Parker Grieben won both the 110-meter high hurdles and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles to help power the Cavaliers.
“We had some personal bests performances today,” said Roncalli boys’ coach Mark Stone, “but it’s hard to know yet if it’s enough to make a difference in the top 24 necessary for the state track meet.”
Aberdeen Christian won two events in the boys’ division and one in the girls’ division.
Dylan Hofer won the triple jump, and the Knights won the boys’ 400-meter relay. Team members included Hofer, Brooks Jett, Luke Kaiser, and Eben Wurgler. Christian’s Shawnteah LaCroix won the 200-meter dash.
Ipswich’s Kyle Hettich won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Dannika Kaup of Potter County won both hurdles races and ran a pair of winning relays for the Battlers. Emma Schneider of Hitchcock-Tulare won the long jump and triple jump.
Roncalli will look to take advantage of one more meet to cap off the regular season when the Cavaliers compete in the Dial-A-Move Last Chance Meet today in Warner.
“Hopefully the meet in Warner (Friday) brings a litttle more consistency and improvement,” Stone said.
