REDFIELD – Aberdeen Roncalli put two runners in the top 15 of the girls’ race, while Cavalier sophomore Matt Peterson finished in the top 20 at the Redfield Pheasant Invite cross country meet Thursday afternoon at Fisher Grove State Park.
Freshman Addison Cassidy was 11th overall in the girls’ race, while teammate Hazel Kannegieter finished in 13th place. Those two efforts led the Cavalier girls to a fifth place finish in the team race.
Evelyn Martin was Roncalli’s third finisher, coming in at No. 50.
Northwestern standout Ella Boekelheide bested the field by nearly a minute en route to her first race win of the season, while James Valley Christian claimed the team title behind two top-five finishers and three in the top 14.
Kamryn Nesheim of Clark-Willow Lake was the runner-up, individually.
On the boys’ side, Peterson clocked an 18th place showing in his first race of the season. Teammate Isaac Price joined Peterson as the only two Cavaliers in the race. Price finished in 56th place.
Tayshaun Cudmore of Dupree was well over a minute faster than the remainder of the 76-man field. The Tigers had two of the top three finishers, but finished fourth overall in the team standings.
James Valley Christian and Deuel tied for the top team score with 30 points. JVC was led by runner-up Dax Frandsen.
Korbin Stark of Faulkton finished fourth.
Roncalli will be back in action Thursday at the Sahli/Salmi Invitational at Lee Park Golf Course.
