BROOKINGS – The Brookings Rangers improved to 9-1 in league play with a 4-0 girls’ hockey victory over the Aberdeen Cougars Friday night.
The hosts set the tone with three first-period goals and received goals from four different players in the contest.
The Rangers blitzed the Aberdeen goal with 40 total shots. Chloe Vikander stopped 36 shots in goal for the Cougars.
Rorii Quam had 24 saves in recording the shutout for Brookings.
“Brookings came out hot and put a lot of pressure on us early. It took us a couple periods to really match that intensity, but the way we played in the third is how we need to start games,” said Cougars coach Amy Munsterman-Wills. “That’s the pace and compete level we’re capable of, and games like this help prepare us for what’s coming next.”
The Cougars continue their busy weekend of hockey by hosting Mitchell at noon today at the Odde Ice Center, followed by another home game against Sioux Falls at noon on Sunday.
