Central boys get late start, make quick work of two foes

RAPID CITY – It wasn’t exactly the way they had the day planned out, but the Aberdeen Central boys’ wrestlers made the most of their opportunity on Thursday.

The Golden Eagles rolled to a pair of dominant victories over a pair of Sioux Falls schools after an interesting start to the day.

“We started the trip 7:15. We got turned around, we had to go back. We went back to school for three hours. We got back on a bus at 11:30,” said Central coach Donnie Bowden. “We came straight out and then we came straight to the venue, straight off the bus, weighed in and wrestled 15 minutes later.”

Bowden said his kids adjusted just fine and did not let the altered routine impact them.

“This is a very mature group. They are mature beyond their years. They take care of business,” Bowden said. “They don’t make a big deal about it. They keep a smile on their face. They get out and fight for one another and get it done. They do what it takes.”

Central blanked Sioux Falls Roosevelt 79-0 and dominated Sioux Falls Lincoln 66-12.

“It was from start to finish. Everyone contributed. Everyone fought,” Bowden said. “One guy would go out there and do his job, and then the next guy would get up and slap his hand and just tagged him in and he went out and did it. I was very happy with the effort and the way they went about things. It was very good.”

The duals should serve as a good spring board into the two-day Rapid City Invitational today and tomorrow.

“Is this a prelude of things to come,” Bowden said, “this is going to be a good weekend.”
