MADISON – Aberdeen Central put a trio of wrestlers in the finals en route to a fourth place finish as a team at the Madison Individual Saturday in the final day of action ahead of the holiday break for the Golden Eagles.
Jackson Dargatz (126 pounds), Porter Lozenski (157) and Owen Ward (190) each advanced to the title bout of their respective weight brackets, all three finishing in the runner-up position.
“They did well,” said Central coach Donnie Bowden of his team. “We’re a little banged up overall and had some sickness, so we had some different guys in the lineup. But we got through today.”
Bowden said he liked the effort he saw from his wrestlers, but noted that experience moving forward will trend toward more positive results.
“I’m happy with what we’ve been doing,” he said. “Obviously, we’d like to have a bit better result, but that will come.”
The Golden Eagles had six other wrestlers finish in fifth place, while sophomore Kaylor Swenson finished fourth at 175.
All told, Central finished with 161 points as a team, putting them fourth in a tight race for second behind team champion Fargo Davies, who ran away with the title with 205 points.
The Golden Eagles will pause for the holiday break and return to the mats on Dec. 30 for another Eastern South Dakota Conference dual at Mitchell.
