Regional squads fall in football semifinals

Deuel and Hamlin both came up short in their quest to play for state football championships, falling in Friday night’s semifinal contests.

Deuel was outscored by Elk Point-Jefferson 43-36 in Class 11B action, while Hamlin lost to Freeman-Marion-Freeman Academy 45-12 in Class 9AA.

Deuel was stopped on a fourth-down play from the EPJ 4-yard line with 47 seconds left.

Aidan Sievers led the Cardinals with 185 yards passing and two touchdowns, and 70 yards rushing and a pair of TDs. Gavin Kloos topped the Deuel ground game with 117 yards rushing and a score.

Jackson Wadsworth threw for 210 yards and a touchdown, and also ran for a TD for Hamlin. Boden Stevenson finished with 119 yards receiving and a score.
