SIOUX FALLS – Aberdeen Central made a run at moving up in the Class AA standings, but couldn’t get past Sioux Falls Jefferson on the road Thursday night, falling 3-1 to the Cavaliers. Jefferson won the non-conference volleyball match by set scores of 25-18, 19-25, 25-16 and 25-19.

While Jefferson claimed the overall victory, Central would not let the Cavaliers go quietly into the night. The Golden Eagles stayed within striking distance in every set until Jefferson pulled away late.

“Lots of errors at inopportune times,” said Central coach Jackie Bindenagel.

Central did end up with six service aces, three each from Kyley Wirebaugh and Alivia Miller. That effort helped propel the Golden Eagles in their lone set victory.

“When our serve was on, we went on some nice runs,” Bindenagel said.

In addition to her efforts at the service line, Miller also had 20 assists for the Golden Eagles, including her 1,000th career assist.

Lauryn Burckhard had 18 kills and 16 digs, while Kenadi Withers notched seven kills. Amelia Rife finished with five kills and two blocks from the middle. Taylin Kleffman had 19 digs to pace the Golden Eagles in that category.

Thursday’s loss will keep the Golden Eagles (15-11) on the road for next week’s SoDak 16, though their opponent has yet to be determined.
