SIOUX FALLS – Sioux Falls Lincoln put on a big-play clinic Friday night, utilizing its high-octane offense to score a 58-14 win over Aberdeen Central at Howard Wood Field.

The Patriots scored on all but two of their first-half possessions, including a stretch during the second quarter in which Lincoln scored 23 points in five minutes.

“That was a good team we played tonight,” said Central coach Justin Briese. “Our defense played hard and got some stops for us. Lincoln just had too many playmakers that made some big plays for them.”

Central, meanwhile, turned both of Lincoln’s non-scoring possessions in the first half into scoring opportunities of its own. Joey Dallmann accounted for nearly all of the Golden Eagles’ first score, first coming up with a big interception return at the end of the first quarter.

Dallmann picked off Lincoln quarterback Brody Schaefer near midfield and returned it all the way down near the 20-yardline. Three plays later, Dallmann hauled in a 22-yard pass from Brayden Bowman on 4th-and-9 with no time left on the clock to put the Golden Eagles on the board and make it a 14-7 game after the first quarter.

“Our offense moved the ball well at times,” Briese said. “We had some success on the ground. (Porter) Lozenski, Dallmann and (Polin) Joseph ran hard behind the OL that got some good push. Bowman did a nice job of finding open receivers.”

From there, however, the Patriots went on a scoring blitz. A big kickoff return to open the second stanza set up a Patriots touchdown, while an interception on the ensuing Central possession set up another TD. Lincoln followed that up with a safety, another big return and a third touchdown in a 5-minute stretch that turned a one-possession game into a burgeoning 37-7 lead.

But once again, the Golden Eagle offense found a glimmer of space. After Lincoln stalled out deep in Golden Eagle territory, Central took over with a little over two minutes to play and marched downfield before Carter Lust snuck behind the Lincoln defense for a 29-yard touchdown reception with 48 seconds to play before the half.

That was too much time for the Patriots. Schaefer bombed a 50-yard pass downfield with 16 seconds remaining where Louison Akossi hauled it in for the score.

Javon Haukaas notched a long TD run to open the second half for Lincoln, his third of the night. Lincoln added one more score late in the fourth quarter for the final margin.

Central (2-6) wraps up the regular season Thursday, hosting Watertown (4-4) at the Brownell Activities Complex.
