There was no letdown for Aberdeen Christian Tuesday night.
One night following a tough five-set loss to Aberdeen Roncalli, the Knights swept past Waubay-Summit 27-25, 25-12, 25-15 in non-conference volleyball action at the Christian School Gym.
“I think they were pretty fired up after (Monday) night’s loss,” said Christian coach Sally Stoebner of her players. “They came with a lot better mentality.”
The Knights got off to a bit of a slow start, winning the opening set in extra points. However, the hosts got going after that.
“We started slow passing, but once we started pulling Sawyer off the net, we were able to get going offensively,” Stoebner said. “Ari Johnson was just awesome and Sophie Glynn, holy cow, she took some big swings today.”
Johnson finished with 13 kills to lead a balanced Christian hitting attack. Glynn and Jolie Fogarty each added nine.
Johnson also racked up a team-leading five aces.
The Knights, who have been in their share of tight matches this season, were able to secure Tuesday’s win in straight sets.
“It feels good to get a win tonight,” Stoebner said. “It felt good to watch my team play without fear of ‘oh my gosh I don’t want hit this ball out of bounds.’ They just were swinging and having fun.”
The Knights head to Wilmot on Thursday for another non-conference match.
Stoebner liked the way her squad responded after a frustrating setback the night before.
“After (Monday) night, I am very satisfied with the way that we played and came out with the same intensity,” Stoebner said, “and it remained throughout all three sets.”
