FLORENCE – Aberdeen Roncalli turned back Florence-Henry in straight sets Tuesday night to record its fourth straight victory. The Cavaliers won the non-conference match by set scores of 25-12, 25-12 and 25-17.
Roncalli used a pin-point effort at the service line to spur the victory, recording 18 aces as a team.
“It was a good night for the girls,” said Cavalier coach Leesa Ware. “Florence-Henry came out strong in the third set, but I feel our serving and our serve receive were very strong tonight.”
Roncalli senior Rylee Voeller led the way at the service line, recording seven aces. Cambry Feickert added four more and Karsyn Davis had three.
Meanwhile, the Cavaliers were also able to finish at the net. Freshman Grace Cogley and Jillian Ellwein had seven kills apiece to pace that effort. Cogley was nearly flawless at the net, finishing the night without an attack error.
“Grace had a good night,” Ware said. “She hit the ball well and hard, and she found a lot of holes.”
Cogley added a pair of blocks to her line, while Feickert notched 11 digs. Elyana Roach recorded 24 set assists for the Cavaliers.
Roncalli will put its win streak on the line Thursday when it plays host to Groton at Roncalli Gym. The unbeaten Tigers are receiving votes in the latest media poll.
“We have a huge match coming up against Groton and we have things to tweak and work on (Wednesday) in practice,” Ware said.
