CHAMBERLAIN – The offensive woes continued for Aberdeen Roncalli Friday night in a 27-0 non-conference football setback to Chamberlain.
The Cavaliers have yet to score in their first two games of the season.
“We’re just going through growing pains right now,” said Roncalli coach Billy Young. “Replacing 13 seniors isn’t easy and then add on to that we are having guys that are having to play out of position because of injuries.”
Chamberlain set the tone early by jumping out to a 13-0 lead in the first three minutes of the contest.
Austin Rose scored on the second play from scrimmage for the Cubs on a 48-yard touchdown run. Then following a Roncalli fumble, Rose scored again on a 25-yard run.
The hosts then tacked on another touchdown in the opening half as Kruse Bretton scored on a 3-yard run with 3:25 left in the second quarter.
Rhodes added his third TD of the contest with 7:16 left in the third period on a 42-yard run.
The Cavaliers pieced together their best scoring chance of the night late in the third quarter when they drove deep into Chamberlain territory. However, that opportunity came to an end on an Chamberlain interception at the Cubs’ 9-yard line.
Roncalli will travel to Clear Lake to face Deuel in a Northeast Conference game next week.
“We will keep fighting the fight and at some point we’re going to turn the corner,” Young said. “I still believe this is a good football team.”
