Early runs fuel Platte victory over Redfield Dairy Queen

BRANDON – The Platte Killer Tomatoes produced six early runs and never looked back on the way to a 12-3 win over Redfield Dairy Queen in the first round of the State B Amateur Baseball Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Platte scored three runs in each of the first two frames to set the tone for the contest.

Redfield got on the board in the bottom of the third inning when Cooper Hainy hit a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Bennett Osborn. However, DQ went on to leave bases loaded.

Platte scored one run in each of the next three innings to build a 9-1 advantage.

DQ added a run across in the bottom of the seventh. After a couple of singles and an error, Keaton Rohlfs took the plate with bases loaded. He was able to bring in Osborn for the second time on an error by the second baseman. However, Redfield left the bases loaded once again.

Platte scored again in the top of the eighth making it a 10-2 game. Redfield responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning, as Nathan Hainy scored on a ground out, which also moved a runner to third with just one out. However, DQ was unable to add any more runs.

Platte tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth for the final margin of difference.
