Area squads head into state Amateur baseball tourneys

There will be a new look for this year’s State Amateur Baseball Tournament as the annual event moves from Mitchell to Brandon for one season.

The Class B tournament starts on Wednesday, Aug. 6 and will run through Sunday, Aug. 17.

Here is a look at first-round matchups involving area teams: the Lake Norden Lakers will take on the Alexandria Angels at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday; the Milbank Firechiefs will meet the Wynot, Neb. Expos at 11 a.m. Friday, followed by Groton Locke Electric against the Kimball-White Lake Nationals at 1 p.m., the Clark Traders will face the Flandreau Blue Teal at 5:30 p.m., with the final game of the day pitting the Castlewood Ravens against the Crofton, Neb. Bluejays at 7:30 p.m. Among Saturday’s games is Redfield Dairy Queen against the Platte Killer Tomatoes at 1 p.m.

The State A Tournament gets started this weekend with games at Fossum Field in Aberdeen Friday through Saturday. Aberdeen Circus Sports Bar will face the Harrisburg Woodies at 5 p.m. on Saturday night. Teams that advance through the weekend will then head to Brandon for the completion of the tournament the following week.
