Webster, Groton split; Clark defeats Redfield

WEBSTER – Webster and Groton split an American Legion baseball doubleheader on Monday.

Webster won the first game 6-4, before Groton responded with a 19-2 win in the second contest.

All of Webster’s runs were unearned in the opener.

Webster’s first run came in the bottom of the second inning on a passed ball with two outs. Groton took the lead in top of the third when Brevin Fliehs tripled to score Teylor Diegel with two outs, followed by an error scoring Fliehs.

Webster answered by scoring five unanswered runs to take control, plating three in the third and two more in the fourth. Groton cut the deficit to two with a pair of runs in the fifth, on Korbin Kucker’s RBI triple and Gavin Englund’s run-producing single, but could get no closer.

Groton bounced back in the second game, scoring six runs in the first frame, five in the fourth and eight more in the fifth.

Groton scored six two-out runs in the top of the first. Braxton Imrie and Nick Groeblinghoff each had two-run singles, and Lincoln Krause added an RBI double.

Nick Morris had a two-run single, while Imrie and Fliehs each drove in one in the fourth. Fliehs, Carter Simon and Teylor Diegel each drove in a pair of runs in the fifth.

Diegel and Fliehs each finished with three hits for Groton. Fliehs, Morris, and Imrie each knocked in three.

Clark-Willow Lake 6, Redfield 1

REDFIELD – Clark-Willow Lake collected 13 hits in a 6-1 win over Redfield.

The Senators pieced together six runs in the first four innings.

Max Bratland opened the scoring with a two-run single in the top of the second. Redfield cut into the deficit in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on a wild pitch.

Clark-Willow Lake scored a single run in the third on Damian Severson’s RBI single, and then tacked on three two-out runs in the fourth. Jack Helkenn had an RBI single, Severson added another run-producing hit, and Helkenn scored on a passed ball.

Tyson Huber earned the win for the Senators, throwing four innings, before Cooper Pommer pitched the final three frames, striking out seven batters.
