SPEARFISH – The Aberdeen Smittys used timely hitting and solid pitching on the way to a twinbill sweep over Spearfish in American Legion baseball Thursday night. Aberdeen scored a dozen two-out runs to help fuel 8-0 and 8-3 victories.

The Smittys started the night by scoring a pair of two-out runs in the top of the first inning of the opener when Joran Foss blasted a home run with a runner on board.

Ridley Waldo added an RBI single in the fourth driving in Foss, and repeated the feat two innings later. Foss capped the scoring with a two-run double in the seventh.

Foss finished with two hits and knocked in four. Jehiel Aviles, Jaxon Ladner, and Waldo each added two hits. A trio of pitchers combined on the shutout. Michael Dutenhoffer struck out seven batters.

All of Aberdeen’s runs were scored after two outs in the second contest.

The Smittys again got on the board in the top of the first. Waldo had a bases-loaded walk and Grant Beyer contributed a two-run single.

Aberdeen tacked on three more runs in the third when Joe Cogley had an RBI single, and Karson Borge added a two-run double.

Beyer drove in a run with a double in the fourth, and Aviles plated a run on a sac fly in the fifth.
