GROTON – Groton, which grabbed a walk-off victory on Tuesday, rallied for another American Legion baseball win on Wednesday. Groton scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to fuel a 13-9 win over Lisbon, N.D.
Groton jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first inning.
Korbin Kucker had a solo home run, Nick Morris was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Braxton Imrie drew a bases-loaded walk, and Karsten Fliehs produced a sacrifice fly.
Lisbon inched its way back, eventually taking a 5-4 lead in the top of the fifth.
Groton responded with three runs in the bottom half of the frame to surge in front.
Brevin Fliehs had a two-run double, and Carter Simon added a sac fly.
Lisbon once again regained the lead with three runs in the top of the sixth for an 8-7 advantage.
Groton answered with big outburst in the bottom half of the frame to grab five-run lead, producing all six runs with two outs. The hosts pieced together five consecutive run-producing hits.
Teylor Diegel had an RBI single, Kucker followed with a two-run double, Brevin Fliehs drove in a run with single, Simon delivered an RBI double, and Gavin Englund plated a run with a single.
Lisbon added another run in the top of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough.
Brevin Fliehs finished with three hits and knocked in three runs. Kucker, Simon, and Morris each had two hits. Kucker also drove in three runs.
Lisbon’s Jordyn Bittner had a game-high four hits.
