Groton, Clark-Willow Lake grab wins at Rotary tourney

CLARK – Groton and Clark-Willow Lake picked up American Legion baseball victories at the Clark Rotary Tournament on Saturday.

Groton defeated Linton-Ashley-Wishek 18-4, while Clark-Willow Lake contained Hankinson-Lidgerwood 4-1.

Groton broke a 4-4 tie with a 14-run third inning, which included seven straight hits at one stage.

Alex Abeln, Lincoln Krause, and Teylor Diegel had RBI singles to start the uprising. Korbin Kucker added a two-run double, Brevin Fliehs and Carter Simon drove in runs with singles, Braxton Imrie had an RBI double, Abeln had another run-producing single, and Kucker plated another run with a bases-loaded walk.

Abeln and Krause each finished with three hits, while Diegel, Kucker, and Abeln all knocked in three runs.

Clark-Willow Lake scored three runs in the bottom of the first in its victory.

Cooper Pommer had a leadoff double to start the attack and eventually scored on a passed ball. Damian Severson added a sac fly, and another run scored on a error.

Tyson Huber added an RBI single in the sixth for Clark-Willow Lake’s final run.

Pommer allowed just one hit over six innings, while striking out six.

LaMoure 8, Milbank 3

MILBANK – LaMoure scored in every inning but one on the way to an 8-3 win over Milbank during the Centennial Classic.

Joe Schulte had a role in each of Milbank’s runs. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Mack Kopplin in the first, drove in a run on a fielder’s choice in the second, and scored on a Josh Pederson single in the fifth.
