SISSETON – Alex Morris threw a complete-game shutout as Groton blanked Sisseton 8-0, while Big Stone City pulled away from Webster with a late surge in a 6-3 victory during the opening round of the Region 1B American Legion baseball tournament on Tuesday.

Morris allowed just three hits, walked two and struck out five.

Groton led 1-0 after four innings before taking control with three runs in the fifth and four in the sixth.

Korbin Kucker had an RBI single in the third, Carter Simon, Braxton Imrie and Jarrett Erdmann each drove in a run in the fifth, and Groton had four RBI hits in the sixth.

Kucker led off with a double and scored on a single by Brevin Fliehs. Gavin Englund followed with another RBI single, and Alex Abeln capped the scoring with a two-run double.

Kucker, Fliehs and Abeln each had two hits for Groton, while Carter Stickland topped Sisseton with two hits.

Groton takes on Big Stone City in the semifinals today.

Big Stone City 6, Webster 3

Big Stone City broke open a tight game with a four-run fifth inning in its win over Webster.

Leading 1-0, the Badgers scored five unanswered runs in all on the way to the victory. Three of those runs came via bases-loaded walks. Kirby Olson and Connor Danielson added RBI singles.

Webster scored all three of its runs in the sixth with three of its four hits in the frame. Sheldon Schmieg had an RBI single.

Isaac Brown had two hits for Big Stone City, and Brent Bearman had a pair of hits for Webster.
