Fast start fuels Groton win over Big Stone City

GROTON – Groton exploded for 20 runs in two innings in a 20-0 American Legion baseball win over Big Stone City Wednesday evening.

Groton had three back-to-back-to back extra-base hits in a nine-run first inning, and then had three hits and took advantage of five walks in an 11-run second frame.

Brevin Fliehs started the scoring with a two-run triple in the first, followed by RBI doubles from Gavin Englund and Nick Morris. Fliehs also added an run-producing single later in the inning.

Fliehs then connected for his second two-run triple of the contest in the second inning. Alex Abeln and Braxton Imrie also had RBI hits in the frame.

Fliehs finished the game with three hits and knocked in six runs. Morris, Englund, and Taylor Diegel each had two hits for Groton, which had a dozen hits in all.

Korbin Kucker pitched two innings and struck out five. Deigel threw a hitless inning in relief, striking out a pair.
