Tight leaderboards after opening day at State B

WATERTOWN – The individual and team races are close following the opening rounds of the Class B State Boys and Girls golf tournaments on Monday.

In the girls’ tourney at Prairie Winds Golf Course, just one stroke separates the individual and team leaders.

Two-time defending state champion Brynn Roehrich of Clark-Willow Lake leads former state champion Jayce Pugh of Miller by a single stroke after Roehrich carded a 72 and Pugh had a 73. Jadyn McDonald of Chester is right behind with a 74.

Dell Rapids St. Mary owns a one-stroke advantage over Miller in team points. Chester is in third.

In the boys’ tourney at Cattail Crossing, just two strokes separates the top eight golfers. Flandreau’s Alfie Henderson leads the pack with a 71, followed by Wyatt Larson of McIntosh, and Tanner Auch of Freeman, both with 72s.

There is a five way tie for third just two strokes back. That group includes defending state champ Gavin Colson of Sully Buttes, Will Jarding of Hanson, Carter Vogel of Chester, Kaden Wookey of Clark-Willow Lake, and Kaden Weinreis of Doland.

In the team points battle, Hanson leads Clark-Willow Lake by four strokes. Flandreau and Wall are just six strokes off the pace, tied for third.

Other top area girls’ golfers include Kaihlyn Anderberg of Miller, Olivia Olson of Sully Buttes, and Taryn Hettick of Selby tied for ninth with rounds of 88, Faulkton’s Anika Mueller in 18th with a 90, Sage Gaikowski of Waubay-Summit tied for 19th with a 91, Olivia Knox of Doland tied for 22nd with a 93, and Mollie Simon of Ipswich tied for 25th with a 94.

Other top area boys’ golfers include Larz Tvedt of Wolsey-Wessington tied for ninth with a 74, Oliver Fritzsche of Miller tied for 11th with a 75, Aiden Abraham of Hamlin tied for 14th with a 76, Trent Beyers of Edmunds Central, and Kooper Wookey of Clark-Willow Lake tied for 16th with 77s, and Seth Hettick of Edmunds Central, and Seth Lesnar of Webster, tied for 21st after rounds of 78.
