WATERTOWN – When the Class B State Boys and Girls Golf Tournaments take place today and Tuesday, there is likely to be some familiar names near the top of the leaderboards.

Both defending state champs are back in the fields. Gavin Colson of Sully Buttes won the boys’ individual title last season, while Brynn Roehrich of Clark-Willow is the defending girls’ medalist. Each is coming off recent region championships.

Last year’s team title was a tight one in the boys’ tournament as Wessington Springs edged Hanson by a single stroke with Hamlin just three strokes off the pace.

Chester won the girls’ team crown, 13 strokes better than Miller. Clark-Willow Lake was third.

Six of the top 10 girls’ individual place winners are back, including runner-up Jayce Pugh of Miller, third-place finisher Jadyn McDonald of Chester, and fourth-place golfer Taryn Hettick of Selby.

Seven of the top 10 boys are back in the field including third-place finisher Taylor Kriech of Colman-Egan, and fourth-place golfer Wyatt Larson of McIntosh.

The boys tourney will take place at Cattail Crossing, while the girls will play at Prairie Winds.
