MILBANK – Aberdeen Roncalli won two of the three doubles matches to pull out a 5-4 victory over Milbank in tennis action on Monday.

The Cavaliers will now try to use that momentum as they prepare for the upcoming state tournament next week.

Roncalli received singles wins from Gannon May at first flight, Caleb Stoks at fifth flight, and Liam Voehl at sixth flight.

May teamed with Will Haskell for a first flight doubles victory, and Stoks and Voehl grabbed a win at third flight doubles.

“Glad to be back home and preparing for state. We are poised and ready,” said Roncalli coach Jason Haskell. “Gannon, Caleb and Liam continue to win matches at their respective singles spots. Will and Gannon have had a great season at number one doubles.”

The Cavaliers are coming off a strong showing at the Governor Invitational tourney in Pierre last weekend. Haskell is excited about his team’s potential at the state tournament.

“I am really looking forward to seeing what this team can do at state. I feel like we have exceeded my expectations for the season,” Haskell said. “We have the rest of this week to prepare for state and see if we can exceed expectations at state as well.”

The Cavaliers will now gear up for the state tourney.

“This has been a great group of boys,” Haskell said, “and I can’t wait for them to give it their all in Sioux Falls next week.”
