Milbank boys, CWL girls win team titles at Valley Queen Cheese meet

MILBANK – The Milbank boys and Clark-Willow Lake girls claimed team championships during the Valley Queen Cheese Invitational track and field meet on Tuesday.

Milbank’s Emmett Hanson won the 110-meter high hurdles and 300-meter intermediate hurdles, and also ran on winning 800-meter and 1,600-meter relay squads.

Great Plains Lutheran had two individuals who won multiple open events. Micah Holien won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, while teammate Hessel Andringa won the long jump and triple jump.

Clark-Willow Lake’s Kamryn Nesheim won the 800-meter run, 1,600-meter run and 3,200-meter run. Teammate Zoe Nichols won the 100-meter hurdles and the high jump. Langford Area’s Paytyn Marlow won the 100-meter dash and the long jump.

The Groton girls won four of the five relays on the day.

Roncalli won the boys’ 400-meter relay. Members included James Behan, Parker Grieben, Aiden Fisher, and Brody Weinmeister. Roncalli’s Gabby Thomas won the triple jump.

“We had some personal best performances in the field events and the track events, and had some individual and relay champions,” said Roncalli coach Mark Stone. “Overall, a good day, but we certainly have some things to work on, and some decisions to be made as we approach the end of regular season meets.”
