EUREKA – Ipswich captured team championships in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions during the Eureka Lions track and field meet on Tuesday.
The Ipswich boys were powered by Kyle Hettich who won the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and ran on the winning 1,600-meter relay squad.
Leola’s Dustin Wurtz won the shot put and discus events.
On the girls’ side, Dannika Kaup of Potter County won the 100-meter hurdles, 1,600-meter run, and ran on the winning 1,600-meter relay team.
Aberdeen Christian had some big performances. Dylan Hofer won the triple jump with a leap of 42-feet 10 1/2-inches (breaking his own school record by nearly a foot) and also ran on second place 400-meter and 800-meter relay squads. The Knights also won the girls’ 400-meter relay. Team members were Ali Isakson, Eritrea Cobbs, Hope Ellyson, and Payton Skarin.

“Kids had a really good day across the board,” said Christian coach Sam Bjorkman. “Of course a highlight was Dylan hitting 42-10 1/2 in the triple jump. Love to see success happening with a kid that works so hard. We also finally are getting some hurdlers developing and they made great use of the wind today in the 100s-110s.”
Bjorkman also pointed out the efforts of a couple of girls on the day.
“Ali Isakson hit a big PR in the 200, running a season best by a second and PR by .3,” Bjorkman said. “Hope Ellyson had a big day hitting PRs in both the 100 meter and the 200 meter, massive 1.5 second PR. Again with these two, love to see success for kids who work so hard and are dedicated to their craft.”
