BRANDON – It was a repeat performance for the Aberdeen Central girls’ golf team on Friday.

One day after winning a tourney in Brookings by having three of the top five golfers, the Golden Eagles did it again it nearly identical fashion at the Lynx Invitational, claiming three of the top four spots.

Central won the team title with a 308, 14 strokes better than Mitchell, and had the same order of finish as Thursday with Olivia Braun shooting a 3-under-par for first place, followed by teammate Emma Dohrer in second with a 71, and Kyley Wirebaugh in fourth with a 77.

“It was a nice way to wrap up the regular season (Thursday) and today, along with that playing our conference tournament course today and doing as well as we did,” said Central coach Kim Zimmerman. “A lot of good individual performances again. Olivia is Olivia. She deserves a lot of credit. Her game is really, really good, but I’d be remise if I didn’t mention Kyley and Emma. They have just played some really good golf this year. A lot of our team success goes to their games, too. It’s a credit to them.”

Zimmerman noted that the trio has been among the top five golfers in nearly every event so far this season.

“They’ve been in the top five just about every meet, those three, but having said that, we still have to work on getting a fourth score,” Zimmerman said. “We’re not just going to leave that out there, because that puts a lot of pressure on the other ones and we don’t want that to be the case. We just want to keep working on that and not be so dependent and reliant on that.”

While Zimmerman noted that the season still has the biggest tournaments ahead with conference and state, he is happy with what has transpired so far.

“I’m really proud of the girls of what they’ve accomplished this year with the season that they’ve had,” Zimmerman said.

He said the Golden Eagles need to continue to play with confidence, but also not take anything for granted, especially with a solid Mitchell squad always lurking within reach.

“I think a lot of it is just the confidence that we have right now. I always tell people there’s a difference between cocky and confident. We want to kind of go out there and play with a swagger, there’s no doubt about that,” Zimmerman said, “but yet a confident swagger and do this and we got this, but at the same time we can’t just let our guard down and think that’s it going to be given to you. Mitchell does have a very good team, there’s no doubt about that.”

Central returns to the same course in Brandon on Tuesday for the Eastern South Dakota Conference Tournament.

Zimmerman would take a repeat of Friday’s performance.

“If you’d tell me that we’d get this score on Tuesday, I’d take it right away without even playing, I think. It was a very good team score today,” Zimmerman said. “There’s nothing that you can complain about after the round that the girls had today.”
