A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of Nov. 3-9:

Last year on Nov. 3, 2023: The six Warner senior volleyball players never lost a game on their home court in their four years in high school and the seven Warner senior football players never lost a game on their home field in high school. Warner seniors Courtney Bjorgaard, Ava Nilsson, Kyra Marcuson, Sophia Hoeft, Nevaeh Lesnar and Lauren Marcuson went 41-0 at home in their high school careers and 133-10 overall with two state championships and two state runner-up finishes. Warner seniors Brodey Sauerwein, Hunter Cramer, Jace Schwab, Charlie Dulany, Alex Pudwill, Gavin Lane and Tristan Gosch went 21-0 at home during their high school football careers and 39-6 overall with a state title, a state-runner-up finish and three appearances in semifinal games.

10 years ago on Nov. 7, 2014: South Dakotans Logan Storley (Webster) of the University of Minnesota and Robert Kokesh (Wagner) of Nebraska are ranked No. 1 and 2 at 174 pounds in the nation in the NCAA DI wrestling ratings.

20 years ago on Nov. 9, 2004: Krista Rabenberg (12 kills and six blocks), Amanda Nink (10 kills) Brittany Fuhrman (26 assists) and Michelle Ulmer (six digs) led Mobridge past Redfield 3-0 to win Region 6A and earn a state tourney berth.

30 years ago on Nov. 5, 1994: NSU blocked a Minnesota-Duluth punt in the third quarter that provided the Wolves with the game-winning points. Chad Hauger, who led the Wolves with seven tackles, recovered the blocked punt in the end zone to give NSU a 20-15 win in Duluth. Offensively, Boyd Brandsrud caught 15 passes for 183 yards for the Wolves, including a 18-yard TD pass from Andy Feterl.

40 years ago on Nov. 8, 1984: Augustana assistant football coach since 1982, Jim Heinitz, has been promoted to head coach. He will coach the Vikings’ final game against USD. Augie released Lyle Eidsness after his teams went 13-29 one game short of four seasons.

50 years ago on Nov. 9, 1974: Ron Volesky of Huron has made the varsity basketball team at Havard. His coach was Boston Celtics Hall of Famer Tom “Satch” Sanders.
