A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of Oct. 27-Nov. 2:

Last year on Oct. 30, 2023: The Mount Marty women’s basketball team set several records in its 100-9 win over Union College of Lincoln, NE. All 14 Lancers scored, including nine points from Aberdeen Central graduate Kyra Griese. Union went 4 of 31 from the field, including 0 of 12 from three-point range and made one of their six free throw attempts. They scored 2 points in the first quarter, 3 in the second, 4 in the third, and 0 in the fourth.

10 years ago on Oct. 27, 2014: Linda DeBoer of Miller became the seventh South Dakota high school volleyball coach in history to earn 500 or more wins.

20 years ago on Oct. 30, 2004: Six minutes into the third quarter, Jason Wenner of Northern State returned a blocked punt 33 yards for what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown. The
Wolves defeated host Minnesota-Crookston 22-12.

30 years ago on Oct. 29, 1994: Coach Joe Kramer and his Dakota Wesleyan Tigers upset coach Bob Young’s Sioux Falls College Cougars 22-14. The Cougars (7-2) were rated 11th in the nation, and with the loss, they tied DWU (4-5) for the South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference championship as each team finished 4-1. SFC was ahead 14-0 at halftime, but DWU scored one TD (Chris Determan 18-yard pass to Travis Hohn) in the third and two (Determan 8-yard pass to Travis McIntosh and 11-yard run by Kevin Ryherd) in the fourth. The Tigers have won five straight in the series.

40 years ago on Oct. 28, 1984: Doug Ekmark has resigned as the NSU football coach. His teams went 14-23-2 in four seasons.

50 years ago on Oct. 29, 1974: After 24 years of coaching various sports at Egan, Webster, Mitchell and Aberdeen Central, Don Reshetar is giving up coaching to focus fully on his role as the Aberdeen Central athletic director.
