ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Aberdeen Wings picked up a 5-1 win over St. Cloud in North American Hockey League action Friday night.
The win, coupled with a Minot victory in a shoot out, left the Wings and Minotaurous in a tie for the fourth and final playoff spot with three games remaining. However, things are getting tight as North Iowa is just one point ahead of both of those squads in third place, while Bismarck is just two points behind them in the sixth position.
Nikolai Tishkevich scored a pair of goals to lead the Wings victory, opening the scoring in the first period and adding an empty netter in the third. He also assisted on a goal by Jordan Ronn in the opening period when Aberdeen grabbed a 2-0 lead.
The Norsemen sliced the deficit in half in the second period, only to have Zachary Reim respond for the Wings just 31 seconds later to restore a two-goal advantage.
Patrick O’Connell also found the back of the net for Aberdeen in the final period.
St. Cloud outshot the Wings 35-26, but Cole Moore was solid in net for Aberdeen with 34 saves.
The same two teams are back at it tonight in St. Cloud before facing each other twice next weekend at the Odde Ice Center in Aberdeen to close out the regular season.
