DICKINSON, N.D. – The Aberdeen Cougars scored a first-period goal, but were blanked the rest of the way in a 2-1 boys’ hockey setback to Williston in the opening round of the Dickinson Holiday Tournament on Friday.

Williston scored less than two minutes into the game, before Lleyton Kleffman scored for Aberdeen to tie the contest. The Coyotes regained the lead less than two minutes later and the Cougars could not find the back of the net the remainder of the game, despite the total shots being nearly identical on the night.

“We made a strong push in the third, but couldn’t finish,” said Aberdeen coach Jeremey Backous. “We outshot them 13-4 in the final period. It was a good team effort.”

The Cougars, who slipped to 5-6 overall on the season, take on Dickinson today in the three-day tournament.
