Redfield Muskrats heading back to State B Tournament

REDFIELD – Redfield did not allow a single run in a pair of Region 1B high school baseball games on Sunday to punch its ticket back to the State B Tournament next week in Sioux Falls.

The Muskrats defeated Hamlin 7-0 before blanking Sioux Valley 10-0 in the second contest.

Seth Siebrecht struck out nine batters in six innings and allowed just one hit in the win over Hamlin. Keaton Rohlfs threw a complete-game six-hitter against Sioux Valley.

“Having the two seed we knew we could kind of control who we wanted to pitch and when and where,” said Redfield coach Tommy Gregg. “Seth has been good for us all year and we thought that was a good spot for him and then Keaton, he has a desire to win. He does a lot of good things out there. He has a big heart and he just battles. He threw well today and he’s going to pound strikes. Both of them did that.”

Redfield started out the day by rapping out three extra-base hits in its first three at-bats against Hamlin. Nolan Gall and Rohlfs hit back-to-back doubles, before Erik Salmen tripled. That sequence produced two runs. Siebrecht then helped his own cause by driving in a run with a sacrifice fly.

The Muskrats then tacked on three more runs in the second inning, two of them coming across on a Salmen double. Redfield’s final run came in the fifth when Elliott Komraus doubled and scored on Eli Morrissette’s single.

Redfield was locked in a scoreless battle with Sioux Valley after three innings before taking control with two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and five more in the sixth.

Morrissette had a two-run double in the fourth, Komraus a two-run double in the fifth, and Salmen a bases-loaded double in the sixth. After a run scored on an error, Kevin Weller ended the game with an RBI single on the 10-run rule.

Salmen had a big day with three hits, all for extra-bases, and knocked in six runs.

“He hit some hard line drives,” Gregg said. “It’s fun to watch come off the bat.”

Gall, Komraus, Weller, Riley Fliehe, and Mason Whitley each had two hits for the Muskrats.

Sioux Valley scored four late runs to pull away from Groton for a 9-4 win in the first game of the day.

Tate Larson and Logan Ringgenberg each had two hits for Groton. Larson drove in a pair.

Redfield now returns to the State B Tournament despite losing four all-state players off of last year’s state tourney squad.

“This group hasn’t been just roll the ball out and just go,” Gregg said. “There’s been a lot of hard work and these guys deserve everything they get. I’m pretty proud of them.”
