Clark Traders rally for opening-round win over Wessington Springs

MITCHELL – The Clark Traders scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally for a 6-5 win over Wessington Springs during the first round of the Class B State Amateur Baseball Tournament on Friday evening.

Watson Grantham singled to start the frame, moved up on an error, and scored on sacrifice fly by Jack Heesch. Cooper Pommer singled, before Clark tied the game on an error. Jakob Steen then laid down a sacrifice bunt that pushed home Pommer with the go-ahead run.

Grantham, Pommer, and Steen were all key members of the Clark high school and Legion teams this past spring and summer.

Clark’s other runs came in on a bases-loaded walk, a bases-loaded hit batter, and an error.

Zach Toben had two hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Traders. Merik Junker also had a pair of hits.

Clark will now face the Tabor Bluebirds at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
