Britton, Groton, Milbank, Claremont win region contests

WEBSTER – Britton scored 10 unanswered runs to pull away from Webster and pick up an 11-3 win during the opening round of the Region 6B American Legion baseball tournament in Webster on Tuesday afternoon.

Mitch Burger had an RBI triple in the first inning, added a run-scoring single in the fifth, drove in a run with a double in the sixth, and collected another RBI on a groundout in the seventh.

The hosts had taken a 3-1 lead in the second inning after Dylan Carlson drove in a run with a double, and Zayden Finch delivered a two-run single.

Britton then stormed back for the victory. Ben Suther and Chaz Vietor each had two hits in the win, while Suther, Vietor, and Carter Grobe each drove in a pair.

Volga, which defeated Lake Norden-Badger earlier in the day, stopped Clark-Willow Lake 7-1. Cooper Pommer and Bennett Pommer each had two hits for CWL.

Max Bratland doubled in the fifth and scored on a single by Watson Grantham for Clark-Willow Lake’s lone run.

Lake Norden-Badger then eliminated Webster 16-2 in the final game of the day.

Note: Turner Stevenson tossed a two-hitter and struck out 11 batters for Lake Norden-Badger. Emmett Aho drove in four runs. Teague Stevenson and Evan Schultz each had three hits.

REGION 1B at MILBANK

MILBANK – Groton picked up a pair of victories during the first day of the region, blanking Big Stone City 12-0, and edging Sisseton 4-1.

Jarrett Erdmann tossed a two-hitter while striking out eight batters in the win over Big Stone City.

Jordan Schwan had an RBI triple, Carter Simon produced a sacrifice fly, and Nick Groeblinghoff had a two-run single in the third. Tristan McGannon had a two-run double while Alex Abeln, TC Schuster and Karsten Fliehs each drove in runs in the fourth.

Gavin Englund, Groeblinghoff, and Lincoln Krause each had a pair of hits in the win over Sisseton.

REGION 7B AT CHAMBERLAIN

CHAMBERLAIN – Redfield had its season come to an end with a pair of losses during the first day of the Region 7B tourney.

Redfield was blanked by Martin 12-0, before falling to Winner-Colome 8-4.

Redfield owned a 3-1 lead in the second game, and scored a run in each of the first four innings.

Aiden Frankenstein drove in a run in the first, Tate Neuharth had an RBI single in the second, an error produced another run in the third, and Noah Johnson drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth.
