Groton splits two games at Madison tourney; Milbank wins

MADISON – Groton held West Central in check for a 4-2 victory before falling to Beresford 15-2 during an American Legion baseball tournament in Madison on Saturday.

Gavin Englund had a two-run home run home run in the third inning against West Central, and Lincoln Krause drove in a run in the fourth. Englund struck out eight batters in going the distance on the mound.

Beresford scored four times in the first frame, and tacked on five runs in both the third and fifth frames of its victory. Beresford had 16 hits, including six that went for extra-bases.

Groton’s two runs came in the fourth inning when Carter Simon drove in a run with a double before Englund homered in the next at-bat.
