
REDFIELD – Redfield secured two victories, while Groton won a game and lost one during high school baseball action in Redfield on Sunday. Redfield defeated Madison 14-4, Groton edged Madison 5-2, and then Redfield won a 15-13 slugfest against Groton to cap off the action.
The final contest featured 21 hits and multiple lead changes before it was settled.
Redfield jumped out to an early four-run lead in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Kevin Weller. Groton surged ahead with seven runs in the top of the second. Bradin Althoff delivered the key blow with a bases-loaded double.
Redfield regained the lead with four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to push the margin to 9-7. Erik Salmen drove in one with a single, and Weller had another two-run single.
That lead was short lived as Groton jumped back in front in the fifth with three more runs for a 10-9 advantage, only to have the Muskrats plate fourth more runs in the bottom half of the frame for a 13-10 lead. Salmen had another run-scoring single.
Redfield tacked on two more runs in the sixth on Seth Siebrecht’s two-run single. Those runs proved to be huge, because Groton added three more runs in the seventh inning on Althoff’s three-run homer. However, Groton could not get any closer.
Redfield used seven stolen bases to help fuel the victory and improve to 7-1 on the season.
Salmen finished with four hits, while Nolan Gall and Keaton Rohlfs each had three. Weller drove in five.
Althoff powered Groton with two hits and knocked in six. Cole Simon and Ryan Groeblinghoff also had a pair of hits.

Redfield scored in every inning of its win over Madison.
Elliott Komraus started the scoring with a two-run double in the first inning and Siebrecht ended the contest with a bases-loaded double in the sixth inning.
Weller had three of Redfield’s 12 hits, while Gall and Rohlfs each contributed two.
Groton used a three-run home run from Althoff in the bottom of the first to set the tone in its victory over Madison. After Madison closed the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the third, the Tigers answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the frame and then added one more in the fifth for the final margin of difference.
Ryan Groeblinhoff struck out six batters in going the distance for the pitching victory.
