MITCHELL – The Clark Traders scored nine unanswered runs to fuel a 10-3 victory over the Tabor Bluebirds during the second round of the Class B State Amateur Baseball Tournament on Tuesday evening.
The Traders jumped in front on Jakob Steen’s RBI single in the top of the first inning.
Tabor then scored single runs in the third and fourth frames to take a temporary lead.
Clark plated five runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and three more in the seventh to take control.
Cooper Pommer doubled and Zach Toben singled to start out the fifth. The first run scored on a fielder’s choice, before Marik Junker, Grayson Florey, and Andrew Magedanz each delivered run-producing singles. The final run scored on an error.
Steen and Junker had back-to-back doubles to plate a run in the sixth, and Toben contributed a sac fly and two runs scored on errors in the seventh.
Tabor loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth, before Watson Grantham came on in relief, and struck out back-to-back batters and got the last batter on a fly out.
Hudson Feller threw eight complete innings for Clark, scattering five hits.
Steen finished with three hits, while Pommer, Toben, and Junker each added two. Junker also drove in a pair. Pommer scored two runs.
Clark will take on the Dell Rapids Mudcats in the quarterfinals at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
