Groton blanks Castlewood; Milbank stops Claremont

GROTON – Three different players each had three hits to help power Groton to an 8-0 win over Castlewood in American Legion baseball action on Friday afternoon.

Jordan Schwan, Carter Simon, and Gavin Englund each collected three hits.

Schwan had an inside-the-park home run in the first inning, and a two-run single in the fourth. Karsten Fliehs and Simon each contributed RBI singles in the fourth, Jarrett Erdmann drove in a run with a double in the fifth, and TC Schuster and Englund had back-to-back RBI doubles in the sixth to end the game.

Englund struck out eight batters before Schuster came on in relief.

Jax Tharaldsen had a pair of hits for Castlewood.

Milbank 11, Claremont 1

MILBANK – Aiden Kelly had three hits and knocked in four runs to help lead Milbank to an 11-1 victory over Claremont.

Kelly had an RBI double in the first, RBI singles in the second and third, and drove in a run on a bases-load walk in the fourth. He also struck out three batters and allowed one hit in two-plus innings on the mound.
