SISSETON – Aberdeen Roncalli started out the golf season with a dominant team victory on Monday during the Sisseton Invitational.

The Cavaliers, led by medalist Mackenzie Wegehaupt, put five golfers among the top eight finishers.

“I’m happy with how everyone played today,” said Roncalli coach Jon Murdy. “Got our first event under our belts. And we know what we need to work on to get better.”

Roncalli finished with a team total of 403. Groton was second with a 498.

Wegehaupt shot a 94 to win the tourney by four strokes.

Claire Crawford was runner-up with a 98, while Grace Seyer was fifth with a 105, Ava Danielson was sixth with a 106, and Morgan Helms was eighth with a 115.

“Glad to see the girls all in the top eight,” Murdy said. “Also, happy to see Mackenzie on top of the leaderboard. Hoping to see more of that this season.”

Sisseton’s Kenzley Heath was third with a 99, and Elliot Hortness was fourth with a 101.

Roncalli will compete at a tourney in Milbank on Thursday.
