After weeks of practice and regular-season contests, Class A girls’ basketball teams head into this week’s region play with the reality knowing that it’s win or go home.
The goal is to make it through regional play this week in order to secure a spot in next week’s SoDak 16 round with the eventual destination the state tournament next month in Watertown.
Here is a look at each of the regions involving area teams:
Region 1A
Tuesday, Thursday
This region appears to be a three-team race for two available spots to reach the SoDak 16.
Roncalli earned the top seed and a first-round bye. The Cavaliers will face the winner of the Sisseton-Webster game. Both are dangerous postseason foes. Sisseton has played better down the stretch after losing its first five games to start the season.
The other semifinal looks to be a Milbank at Groton matchup if the seeds hold true to form. Groton won a pervious encounter by nine points last month.
Teams W L
Aberdeen Roncalli 16-4
Groton 14-6
Milbank 16-4
Sisseton 9-10
Webster 7-13
Redfield 5-15
Britton-Hecla 4-16
Tuesday’s Games: Webster at Sisseton, 7 p.m.; Aberdeen Roncalli, bye; Britton-Hecla at Groton, 7 p.m.; Redfield at Milbank, 7 p.m.
Thursday’s Games: Webster-Sisseton winner at Aberdeen Roncalli, 7 p.m., Britton-Hecla/Groton winner vs. Redfield/Milbank winner at highest seed.
Region 2A
Tuesday, Thursday
A very solid team in this region will be sitting at home by the end of the week.
Hamlin has lost just one game so far this season and won’t have to face a team with a winning record to get out of the region.

The intriguing matchup will likely take place in the other half of the pairings. Unless there is an upset along the way, 18-2 Sioux Valley will host 17-3 Clark-Willow Lake. The two met in the first game of the season when Sioux Valley won by 31 points. Don’t expect another lopsided contest should the two hook up again.
Teams W L
Hamlin 19-1
Sioux Valley 18-2
Clark-Willow Lake 17-3
Florence-Henry 9-11
Great Plains Lutheran 8-12
Elkton-Lake Benton 7-13
Deuel 5-15
Tuesday’s Games: Great Plains Lutheran at Florence-Henry, 7 p.m.; Hamlin, bye; Deuel at Sioux Valley, 7 p.m.; Elkton-Lake Benton at Clark-Willow Lake, 7 p.m.

Region 6A
Tuesday, Thursday
Again, there are three quality teams with just two spots available to advance.
Mobridge-Pollock, by virtue of a top seed, will not have to face a team with a winning record to advance to the SoDak 16.

The real headliner here is a potential matchup in a semifinal in the other half of the pairings. Barring an upset, 15-5 Miller will host 16-4 Cheyenne-Eagle Butte. The Rustlers defeated CEB 62-52 back in mid-December.
Teams W L
Mobridge-Pollock 16-4
Miller 15-5
Cheyenne-Eagle Butte 16-4
Chamberlain 7-13
Platte-Geddes 7-13
Crow Creek 4-15
