Conference championships have been secured, seed points totaled, and now the safety net is gone for Class B girls’ basketball teams as they head into regional play this week.
For a majority of teams, the season will end this week. For two teams in each region a trip to the SoDak 16 next week awaits. This year’s state tourney takes place in Brookings next month.
Here is a look at regions involving area teams:
Region 1B
Tonight, Tuesday, Thursday
Things will get interesting at some point in this region, which features six teams at .500 or better.
Waubay-Summit is the top seed and has not lost to a Class B team so far this season.
Northwestern and Warner are the second and third seeds, respectively and could have a memorable matchup in the semifinals.
Langford Area and Hitchcock-Tulare both have solid records, but will need to defeat Waubay-Summit on the road to advance to the SoDak 16.

This region is filled with teams that are capable of advancing to the round of 16.
Arlington is the top seed, but has already lost to a pair of teams within the region, including to potential semifinal foe De Smet by 27 points.

Castlewood, Deubrook Area, Wessington Springs and Wolsey-Wessington all have winning records and will be a tough out. Castlewood has won six of its last seven and has a first-round bye.

Highmore-Harrold is the top seed at 16-4. The Pirates won their first 10 games to start the season, but are 4-3 in their last seven.

Herreid-Selby Area, Ipswich and North Central all won at least a dozen games this season and are capable of moving on to next week’s So Dak 16. HSA and Ipswich could meet in the semifinals. Ipswich won a previous matchup by 14 points.
