MILBANK – Dakota Valley scored in every inning but two on the way to a 9-1 win over Milbank during a loser’s bracket game at the State B Baseball Tournament on Saturday afternoon, ending the season for the host team in the tourney.

Dakota Valley scored two runs in both the first and fourth innings, tacked on three more in the fifth frame, and then added single runs in the sixth and seventh.

“We had trouble early finding the strike zone and allowed DV to capitalize on some mistakes, and put us in tough situations,” said Milbank coach Ron Krause. “Needless to say, you don’t win on big mistakes.”

Milbank got on the board in the fifth inning. The hosts used two walks and a single to load the bases before Mack Koplin drew a walk forcing in a run.

Aiden Kelly had two of Milbank’s five hits in the contest.

Joe Schulte struck out six batters before being relieved in the fifth inning.

The setback ended the season for Milbank, which got to be a key component in celebrating the 100-year anniversary of Legion baseball in the town known for the birthplace of American Legion baseball.

“Tough way to end the season,” Krause said, but that’s part of it.”
