Smittys conclude Gopher Classic with win over Lakeville

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Aberdeen Smittys finished up action on a strong note Sunday afternoon at the Gopher Classic with a 13-4 American Legion Baseball win over Lakeville North.

The Smittys had six extra-base hits in the contest: three doubles, two triples, and a home run.

Aberdeen set the tone early with four runs in the top of the first inning before two outs were recorded. Karson Borge started the uprising with a walk and scored on a double by Lance Siefken. Joran Foss added another RBI double in the next at-bat, and Jaxon Ladner tacked on a two-run home run.

The Smittys scored once in the second inning when Borge walked and crossed home plate on an error.

Aberdeen continued its scoring with three runs in the fifth. Grant Beyer produced a sacrifice fly before Jared Klootwyk drove in a pair with a triple.

Borge was involved in another run in the sixth, when he walked, moved up on a sac bunt, and scored on a passed ball.

The Smittys finished off the contest with another four-run inning in the seventh. Ladner started it off with a lead-off triple, and scored on RBI single by Klootwyk. Borge capped the scoring with a two-run double.

Ladner finished with three hits, a pair of RBI, and scored three times. Klootwyk had two hits and knocked in three, and Borge contributed two hits, drove in two runs, and also scored three times.

Michael Dutenhoffer pitched five innings, allowing just one run on one hit, while striking out seven.

The Smittys conclude the regular season with doubleheaders at Spearfish on Thursday, and at Sturgis on Friday.
