Groton splits pair of Legion baseball games

VOLGA – Groton produced a pair of big innings in a victory and gave up two big innings in a setback during American Legion baseball action on Sunday. Groton defeated Canton 11-1 and fell to Volga 15-8.

Groton had a pair of four-run innings against Canton, both coming with two outs. Teylor Diegel had a two-run single and Braxton Imrie drove in a run in a four-run second frame, and Korbin Kucker and Diegel each drove in a pair in a four-run seventh inning.

Volga scored five runs in the fourth and six runs in the sixth in the victory over Groton. Isaac Skovlund had four hits and drove in four runs for the hosts.

Diegel, Simon, Kucker and Lincoln Krause each had a pair of hits for Groton. Krause knocked in three runs.
