MADISON – Madison-Chester allowed just one run in two victories to win the championship of the Region 1B high school baseball tournament on Wednesday. The hosts defeated Sisseton-Britton-Webster 6-0 before stopping Groton 6-1 in the title game. Madison-Chester now advances to the State B tourney Monday in Brookings.
Groton managed just one run against standout pitcher JD Prorok who struck out 11 batters before being relieved in the sixth inning.
Lincoln Krause and Brevin Fliehs had two hits apiece to lead Groton.
Earlier in the day Groton defeated Howard 7-1 thanks in part to four unearned runs.
Groton’s Carter Simon drove in a run with a double in a three-run first inning. Groton later plated four runs in the fourth inning on just one hit.
Nick Morris struck out eight batters in going the distance for Groton. Krause and Simon both finished with a pair of hits in the victory.
