BROOKINGS – Aberdeen Circus Sports Bar picked up a crucial win over the Sioux Falls Brewers before falling to top-rated Brookings in Class A Amateur baseball postseason action on Saturday.

Circus outscored the Brewers 17-7 to ensure a trip to the state tourney, and then suffered a 15-3 setback to the Brookings Cubs to finish runner-up in the region.

Casey Vining had a big day for Aberdeen, hitting three home runs in the two contests.

Vining had a pair of home runs against Sioux Falls, including a two-run homer in the bottom of the first after the Brewers had jumped out to an early lead.

Circus scored seven runs in the fourth inning. Vining hit a solo home run, Jaiden Smith and Easton Millar each drove in runs with singles, and Kris Kwak belted a grand slam home run.

Smith added a sacrifice fly in the fifth and drove in another run in the seventh.

The Brewers got back in the game with a five-run seventh inning, before Circus ended the game on the 10-run rule with six more runs in the eighth inning.

Michael Babcock started the uprising with a triple and scored on Kwak’s double. Colton Cox plated a run on a single, another run scored on a wild pitch, Smith delivered a two-run single, and Babcock had a run-producing single to end the contest.

Smith finished with four hits, and knocked in five for Circus, which had 18 total hits. Babcock, Vining, Wolf’Don Thorson each had three hits. Kwak drove in four and Vining three.
