Groton sweeps Milbank in Legion action

GROTON – Groton scored 28 runs in a doubleheader sweep over Milbank in American Legion baseball on Wednesday night.

The hosts won the opener 16-6 and then walked off Milbank 12-11 in the second contest on a bunt single by Lincoln Krause in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Groton set the tone in the first game with eight runs in the bottom of the first inning. Nick Groeblinghoff had a bases-loaded double to drive in three runs. Four runs scored on bases-loaded walks.

Groeblinghoff had RBI hits in the fourth and sixth as well and drove in five runs total in the contest.

Groton finished with 11 hits and took advantage of 11 walks.

Milbank scored four times in the fifth when Brady Allen drove in a pair with a double. Kaleb Lindstrom doubled in the next at-bat driving in Allen.

Groton rallied from an 11-6 deficit to win the nightcap.

Milbank scored seven runs in the top of the fourth, three coming in on Mack Koplin’s bases-loaded triple.

Groton responded with five runs in the bottom of the fourth, two on errors and two on bases-loaded walks. The hosts then ended the game in the fifth inning when Krause laid down a bunt plating TC Schuster with the winning run.
