On a night that featured 54 total runs, the Aberdeen Smittys ended up splitting a doubleheader against the Tea Area Titans at Fossum Field Friday night.

The Smittys walked off Tea Area 11-10 in the first game, before the visitors grabbed the nightcap 23-10.

Joe Cogley singled in the game-winner with nobody out as Aberdeen claimed the opener.

The Smittys needed the last at-bat heroics after Tea Area scored three two-out runs in the top of the seventh to tie the score.

Aberdeen rallied from a four-run deficit to start the game, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning, and two runs in each of the second, third, and fourth frames.

Jehiel Aviles started the Smittys’ attack with a leadoff double and scored on Jackson Post’s double in the next at-bat. JaSean Rivera later produced a two-run single.

Post had a two-run home run in the second, and Donovan Kiesow had a two-run double in the third.

Post finished with three hits, drove in three, and also scored three times.

The second game had a similar start with Tea Area jumping in front in the top of the first and Aberdeen answering in the bottom half of the frame.

Post, Rivera, and Michael Dutenhoffer each had RBI hits in a four-run first.

Trailing 9-4 heading to the bottom of the fifth, the Smittys tied the game with five two-out runs. Cogley had a bases-loaded double, and scored on Post’s inside the park home run.

However, Tea Area then took control scoring 14 runs in the sixth, all coming with two outs. The visitors had six hits and took advantage of nine walks in the frame.

Post, Cogley, and Mason Backous each had two hits for Aberdeen.

The Smittys host Sioux Falls Lincoln in a doubleheader at noon today, before hosting Rapid City Central in a twinbill on Sunday.
