MITCHELL – The Canova Gang scored four runs in the seventh inning to break a tie score and grab an 8-4 win over the Clark Traders during the State B Amateur Baseball Tournament on Tuesday evening.

The late uprising ended a back-and-forth battle between the two squads as Clark opened a 2-0 lead in the second inning, before Canova responded with two runs in the third. The Gang then inched ahead with two in the top of the fifth, only to have the Traders respond with two in the bottom half of the frame.

Jeffrey Paulson had a two-run single in the second to open the scoring for Clark, plating Bryce DesLauriers and Jay Huber. Canova’s Derek Miller answered with a two-run single in the third.

Miller drove in another run in the fifth and the second run was the result of an error. Clark’s Brent Griffith drove in Huber in the fifth and then tied the game when he scored on an error.

That set the stage for the seventh when Cole Gassman broke the tie with an RBI single before Jared Miller plated a pair with a hit. The final run came in on a wild pitch.

Wesley Jones, Jeff Karber, DesLauriers and Huber each finished with a pair of singles for the Traders, who finished with 13 hits total.
