Redfield splits tight contests at Marshall tourney

MARSHALL, MINN. – Redfield split a pair of one-run American Legion baseball games at the Marshall Legion Wood Bat Tournament on Saturday, losing to the Marshall Mudcats 8-7 before defeating Willmar, Minn. 12-11.

Against Marshall, Redfield built a 3-0 lead after two innings. Keaton Rohlfs had an RBI single in the first inning, scoring Camden Osborn. In the second inning, Osborn tallied an RBI single, sending Seth Siebrecht across the plate, before Owen Osborn grounded out to first, sending Eli Morrissette home for the third run of the game.

Redfield added to its lead in the fourth, posting three runs. Camden Osborn singled to right field, scoring Noah Johnson, while Kevin Weller scored on an RBI single by Peyton Osborn. Camden Osborn scored on an RBI sac fly by Rohlfs, extending the margin to 6-0.

Marshall answered with two runs in the fourth inning and eventually took the lead, scoring six runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Redfield added one more run in the sixth on an RBI single by Peyton Osborn, but Marshall held on to complete the comeback win.

Camden Osborn led Redfield with four hits and drove in a pair, while Peyton Osborn had two hits and two RBI.

Rohlfs drove in Owen Osborn for the game winner against Willmar in the top of the seventh inning, breaking an 11-11 tie. The run came after a back-and-forth affair between the two teams.

After both teams scored three runs apiece in the first inning, Redfield took a 4-3 lead in the top of the second on an RBI single by Camden Osborn, scoring Weller. However, Willmar answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 6-4 lead.

Redfield posted six runs in the fourth to regain the lead. With the bases loaded, Peyton Osborn was hit by a pitch, scoring Weller to get the scoring started. Rohlfs then hit an RBI single, scoring Camden Osborn tying the game at six. Gall later doubled on a line drive to right field, scoring three runners to give Redfield a 9-6 advantage. Elliot Komraus then hit an RBI sac fly, scoring Gall to complete the inning and give Redfield a 10-6 lead.

After Redfield extended its lead to 11-6 in the top of the fifth inning, Willmar scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning and one run in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 11, setting up Redfield’s game-winning run in the seventh.

Camden Osborn led Redfield’s 11-hit attack with four hits. Rohlfs added three hits and drove in four, while Gall finished with three RBI.

Redfield, 13-4 on the season, takes on Alexandria, Minn., for third place at 9 this morning.
