The Aberdeen Smittys split a pair of American Legion baseball games with Spearfish Saturday at Fossum Field.

The hosts won the opener 9-3 before dropping the second contest 7-6.

The Smittys scored five times in the first two frames of their game one victory. Aberdeen added four more runs in the fifth inning as Ethan Kjenstad, Jaiden Smith and Nick Clemens each drove in runs.

Phillip Zens, Brock Martin and Smith each finished with a pair of hits in the victory.

The Smittys led the second contest 6-5 before Noah Mollman’s two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning put Spearfish in front. The visitors rapped out a dozen hits in the win.

Aberdeen had taken a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the first inning with just one hit. A pair of bases-loaded walks and a wild pitch plated three of the runs, and another scored on a Casey Vining hit.

The same two teams are back at it again today with a single game scheduled for 1 p.m.
