Wings defeat Minot in season opener

The Aberdeen Wings opened their NAHL season with a 3-2 win over Minot on Friday night at the Odde Ice Center. The Wings built a two-goal lead, lost it, and the produced the game winner midway through the third period.

Aberdeen jumped in front in the opening period with two goals in less than 90 seconds. Jonathan Doucette scored at the 2:37 mark on assists from Lucas Schaefer and Brody Dustin. The Wings then added another goal with 1:10 left in the period when Dustin found the back of the net on assists from Schaefer and Price Grimes.

Minot leveled the contest with a pair of goals in the second period, before Doucette scored the game-winner for the Wings with 9:02 left in the third on assists from David Hruby and Schaefer.

Minot outshot the Wings 32-21. Willum Braun collected 30 saves in goal for Aberdeen.

The same two teams are back on the ice tonight with puck drop set for 7:15.
